Shilo Sanders has another problem on his hands, and this time it has nothing to do with football. The former Colorado Buffaloes safety is looking for a new home, but New York's rental market has left him questioning whether the move is worth it.

Even with a budget that could stretch to $12,000 a month, Deion Sanders' son is struggling to find an apartment that offers enough space for the money. The search comes during a difficult financial period for Shilo, who remains involved in an $11.89 million bankruptcy dispute. He has already walked away from several expensive rentals in Florida. Now, New York has given him another reason to think twice about where he wants to settle.

Deion Sanders' son Shilo Sanders questions New York apartments charging $12,000 a month

Shilo did not hold back when he discussed New York's housing market in a YouTube video shared on November 6, 2026. He spoke about rental prices while getting his haircut, pointing out that the biggest problem was not necessarily the monthly cost but the limited space tenants received in return.“My biggest thing about New York, bro, is the square footage for the price,” Shilo said.He went on to explain that even apartments costing as much as $12,000 a month did not seem worth the asking price.

“I don't know who normalized the real estate market in New York, but it's outrageous, bro,” he added. His reaction followed several weeks of house hunting in Florida. One property in Downtown Miami particularly caught his attention because of its river views. However, the rental prices proved too high, with some options costing more than $10,000 a month.West Palm Beach was another possibility, but safety concerns made him hesitant about returning there.

New York initially looked like a fresh option. However, its rental market has not made the decision any easier.Shilo had even asked his YouTube audience whether he should move to the city. He had suggested that since he already lived in Florida, things could not get much worse. His latest comments suggest he may have underestimated New York's housing costs.

Shedeur Sanders offers financial help as Shilo's $11.89 million bankruptcy case continues

There is also a family offer that could help Shilo with his next move.

In October 2026, his brother Shedeur Sanders, the Cleveland Browns quarterback, offered to cover the down payment on a house Shilo chooses. However, Shilo would remain responsible for the monthly rent. That arrangement comes as his bankruptcy case remains unresolved. The dispute goes back to a 2015 altercation involving Shilo and John Darjean, a security guard at his high school. Darjean later secured an $11.89 million judgment against him.Shilo filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in 2023 and has maintained that he acted in self-defense during the incident. The five-day bankruptcy trial brought the dispute back into focus, but Judge Michael Romero has yet to deliver a final decision.

The judge also raised concerns about missing surveillance footage that could help clarify what happened. The absence of those videos has left an important part of the case unresolved.Shilo did receive some relief in another legal dispute. Barnes & Thornburg LLP had filed a lawsuit over approximately $170,000 in unpaid legal bills. However, the case was dismissed with prejudice in October 2026.Away from football, Shilo has been exploring fashion, modelling, acting, music and content creation. New York could offer opportunities in several of those fields, but the rental prices have clearly become a major hurdle.Currently, Shedeur's offer gives him some financial support with his housing plans. Finding a place he actually likes, without committing to another expensive monthly bill, remains the bigger challenge.
