The Prime Minister's Office announced on Saturday that, after concrete threats against Deputy Minister Almog Cohen and his family, the security apparatus around him and his residence would be significantly bolstered.

Among other things, Cohen received messages that included explicit death threats.

The PMO assigned the task to the "Magen" unit, and security was reinforced through both the Shin Bet (ISA) and the Israel Police. A security guard would also be stationed near Cohen's home, and his family members are receiving close police escort.

This comes as, over the last week, an indictment was filed against Raz Weinberger, 49, from Ein HaHoresh, over 21 posts on X/Twitter that included, according to the indictment, calls to murder Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, ministers, Knesset members, and government supporters.

Among other things, in response to a post on Almog Cohen's account, the defendant wrote, "Your parents should watch you getting beheaded and having your head thrown to Gazans to play soccer with."

Cohen's office stated: "We do not comment on security aspects concerning the deputy minister and his family. Deputy Minister Cohen will continue to serve the citizens of the State of Israel without any fear."

Shin Bet responsible for Eisenkot's security

Last Tuesday, senior sources confirmed to Walla that responsibility for the security of the chairman of the Yashar party, Gadi Eisenkot, will be transferred to the Shin Bet's State VIP Protection Unit, Unit 730. The decision comes after months of dispute surrounding his security detail, and against the background of threats made in recent days against his family.

The reinforcement came after the Yashar party filed a police complaint against Yossi Cohen, who it alleges threatened Eisenkot's wife, Chana, during a protest outside the family's home in Herzliya. According to the complaint, Cohen addressed Chana Eisenkot and told her, "You will not live, you will be next to your son."

Prior to that, he hurled at Gadi Eisenkot: "You murdered your son." The remarks were made in reference to the death of their son, Gal, in combat in the Gaza Strip in December 2023.
