Anna Mallett Exits Netflix Amid UK Layoffs

Translate

Deadline is told that around 2% to 3% of the London office of several hundred staff have been laid off, including Anna Mallett, who was VP Production in the UK and EMEA. Others to have left work in areas like PR and marketing, we are told.

Mallett joined Netflix just over five years ago and worked across TV shows and movies in the UK and EMEA. This was a period of creative success for Netflix EMEA, with huge hits including Baby Reindeer, Adolescence and latter seasons of Money Heist plus spin-off Berlin.

Mallett is a well-known international industry figure who was previously CEO of ITN, which makes news for ITV, Channel 4 and 5. Prior to this, she was Group COO and MD Production at BBC Studios.

News of the UK redundancies has emerged a few weeks after Netflix revealed it was cutting 1,000 roles, around 6% of its global staff base.

The product, tech, legal and HR teams were among the most impacted by the cuts but huge names left the streamer including content chief Bela Bajaria and film boss Dan Lin. Bajaria, who was well respected internationally for her strategy of building local hubs, has been replaced by Peter Rice, who was born in the UK.

Netflix has been grappling with slower growth and viewership along with declining stock.
